The Chinese Language Centre has a solid reputation of excellence in language teaching and offers a wide variety of Cantonese and Putonghua courses for learners from diverse academic, professional and social backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be required to:


	take up substantial teaching responsibilities for courses related to Chinese language education in the Cantonese Steam;
	develop course curriculum, teaching and assessment materials;
	carry out duties in relation to student and academic administration; and
	support and perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

The appointee should possess:


	a University degree and Master’s degree or equivalent in Chinese language and literature, teaching Chinese as a second language, linguistics, or another relevant field;
	relevant teaching experience (normally 3 years’ post-qualification experience at tertiary level);
	the ability to design and deliver new courses as well as to employ second language pedagogy.


What We Offer

The appointment will be made on a temporary hourly-paid basis for 1 year, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding availability.

The facility for the Manufacturing of Active Implants and Surgical Instruments (MAISI) is a suite of cleanrooms located at St Thomas Hospital, part of the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King’s College London. 

MAISI is a dedicated sub-contract manufacturing facility, fully staffed and equipped to build advanced active implantable medical devices and surgical instruments for first-in-human safety studies.

We enable funded research to achieve its full impact by supplying prototypes for clinical evaluation, accelerating translation for the future benefit of patients. About The Role

We are seeking an Engineering Technician / Junior Engineer to join our team as we establish a new medical device manufacturing facility. 

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to be immersed within the medical device industry and have a real contribution to the success of our project. Once established, the facility will support researchers and start-ups in the production of novel medical devices for first in human clinical studies.

You will: 


	Proactively support us in routine facility organisation and operational activities 
	Assist with manufacturing process optimisation and qualification activities to develop our first medical device 
	Learn to operate a range of manufacturing equipment from 3D printers to laser micro-machining systems 
	Report to the Senior Process Engineer, working closely with the Process Engineers and other departments including Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Procurement.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Desirable criteria


	Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g. medical device, microelectronics or pharmaceutical) 
	Awareness of GMP and relevant regulatory standards (e.g. ISO13485, 21 CFR 820, AIMD, MDD and MDR) 
	Experience with manufacturing processes and equipment operation 
	CAD skills 
	Project Management or SixSigma training or qualification

Description

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applicants to apply for the open Postdoc position in the Project Collaborative Multi-Robot Swarms in Unknown Environments.

CAIR invites qualified applicants with a doctorate degree in the areas of electrical, or computer, or mechanical engineering, or related field to apply. A strong publication record is encouraged and previous experience in areas such as Distributed control and optimization, Swarms, Autonomous Robots, Embedded systems development, Collaborative and adversarial control, and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) is desired. The position is open to PhDs with background in robotics, controls, AI, and/or computer vision. The candidate is expected to work in a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary environment with other post-doctoral associates, PhD and undergraduate students, as well as faculty members. It is expected that applicants have a strong publication record in the aforementioned areas. The applicants are also expected to have strong analytical, communication, and writing skills.

The successful applicant will work on several projects including development of distributed multi-agent autonomous systems and related technologies. This will include development of distributed monitoring algorithms enabling agents in a multi-agent swarm to autonomously locate other agents in its neighborhood, analyze their behavior, and probabilistically predict future motions/behaviors. As part of this work, the successful applicant will work on sensor data processing and data fusion, dynamics modeling and estimation, multi-agent collaboration algorithms, and inter-agent distributed introspection of agent behaviors to detect behavioral modifications (e.g., due to malfunctions and/or attackers). The algorithmic development will need to take into account various uncertainties and possible adversarial elements wherein some agents in a swarm have been modified by an adversary. The work will include algorithm design, prototype implementation (e.g., in Matlab/Python), deployment (to the agents’ autopilots using the Robot Operating System), and experimental testing (on unmanned vehicle swarms).

A solid competency with the standard implementation tools used in autonomous robots and embedded systems (e.g., C, C++, Linux, MATLAB, Python, Robot Operating System, Ardupilot, Solidworks, Gazebo Physics Engine Simulator) is required.

Description

The Center for Translational Medical Devices (CENTMED) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to join this new initiative focus on designing and developing novel medical devices for ultimate human use. The successful applicant will join several fascinating projects on engineering novel approaches to improve the diagnosis and therapy of metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurologic disease. These projects entail computational modeling, device design and manufacturing, optimization of chemical, mechanical, and electrical characteristics, and preclinical experiments. CENTMED offers multidisciplinary training with a high degree of academic freedom among various high-impact translational projects. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students, ensuring the candidate learns valuable skills in writing manuscripts and grant proposals, advising fellow researchers, and establishing collaborations across disciplines.

Applicant must have a PhD in an engineering or biomedical-related field. Excellent skills relevant to the cardiovascular project (design and development of cardiovascular medical devices, non-invasive imaging modalities such as echocardiography, and computational flow simulation software), are required.

Dr. Kinga Makovi at the Center for Interacting Urban Networks (CITIES), New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a computational social science Postdoctoral Researcher to support multiple projects in urban sociology, inequality and social networks, broadly construed.

The successful applicant will contribute to one or more interdisciplinary projects. Example projects include the study of the spatiotemporal distribution of discrimination claims in the US and the online networks of misinformation in a cross-cultural context. Applicants are encouraged to suggest their own projects that align with the mission and vision of CITIES.

The qualified candidate will have a Ph.D. in a quantitative field (e.g., the social sciences, computer science, engineering) with experience working on interdisciplinary teams that include social scientists. This position requires excellent computational and data management skills, and a knowledge of social science research processes and practices. Furthermore, an interest in urban sociology, inequality and social networks research and experience working with spatial data are also advantages.
